On Monday, May 21, 2018 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm members of the selection committee for the Heart & Soul Community Grant will be visiting Upper Chichester. For those who do not know, the Municipal Building is located at 8500 Furey Road Upper Chichester, PA 19014.
Over the past few months a dedicated group of residents, business owners, township employees, and volunteers have been working towards just that. Born out of an idea from Betsy Barnes, the Librarian at the Upper Chichester Library, this dedicated group has completed a Grant application to the Pennsylvania Humanities Council for funding and technical assistance to become a Heart & Soul Community.
“ In 2015 the Pennsylvania Humanities Council partnered with the Orton Family Foundation to bring the Community Heart & Soul method to Pennsylvania communities. Community Heart & Soul is a proven process that empowers people to shape the future of their communities by creating a shared sense of belonging that improves local decision-making and ultimately strengthens social, cultural and economic vibrancy.
Key to the process is learning what matters most to the community through gathering stories from and engaging as many residents as possible, including those who don’t typically participate in public processes. With storytelling at the heart of planning and development, local values and voices become the foundation for building communities that are connected, innovative, competitive and strong.”
